Loading WaveSurgeon Advanced version 2.7 or higher results in a DirectX plugin error or crash

Symptoms:

Upon running these versions of WaveSurgeon, an access violation occurs and the program crashes, or a DirectX plugin error message is shown.

Solution:

WaveSurgeon requires the DirectMedia library to make use of DirectX plugins. If you are missing this file, or have an older version installed, you are likely to see this error message. If the error still occurs, you need the downloadable patch. To solve the problem, get the files from our download page.
